Cats and Fight Club

So a friend of mine is away for a week and I’m tasked with looking after their cats.

Well. I need to make sure they haven’t killed each other and have at least eaten something that is actual food and not furniture…

(cause guess whose cats like to eat couches and dry wall?)

Anywho

So I’m just hanging out for a little bit. Turned this T.V. and hell yea… Fight Club was playing.

Edward Norton and Brad Pitt are just Chefs Kiss in that film.

So my meat computer got to thinking…

We need a Fight Club for people who get off on the smell of ink and the sound of a keyboard clacking like a machine gun in the dead of night.

Although you don’t talk about it. You just do it. Every. Damn. Day.

You write like your life depends on it. Because it does.

You write like your soul is on fire and the only way to put it out is to bleed it onto the page.

You write like you’re carving your name into the skull of the universe with a rusty spoon.

You don’t wait for inspiration. Inspiration is for amateurs and people who think they’re too good for the grind. You show up. You sit down. You write. Even if it’s garbage. Especially if it’s garbage. Because garbage is better than nothing. Garbage can be composted into something that grows.

You don’t worry about being perfect. Perfect is a lie told by people who are too scared to suck. You embrace the suck. You wallow in it. You make it your bitch.

You don’t wait for permission. No one’s going to hand you a golden pen and say, “Here, you’re a writer now.” You take it. You steal it if you have to. You write because you can’t not write.

You do it every single day. Not because you have to. Because you need to. Writing is your oxygen. Your crack. Your religion. You don’t skip church. You don’t skip the gym. You don’t skip the fucking page.

And if you do it long enough.

If you show up, day after day, word after word, sentence after sentence.

Something magical happens. People start to notice. Not because you’re begging for attention. Not because you’re pandering to algorithms or trends.

Because you’re being yourself. Unapologetically. Relentlessly.

That’s how you build a cult following. Not by trying to be someone else. Not by chasing likes or followers or whatever the hell the internet is obsessed with this week.

By being you.

By writing what only you can write.

So here’s a little mission for this week:

Write something. Anything.

Publish it. Somewhere. Anywhere.

Repeat. Every. Damn. Day.

The first rule is: You write. The second rule is: You write. The third rule is: If you stop, you’re out.

And you’re going to roll your eyes with what I’m gonna say next…

Start an email list.

Write to that list every day and rinse and repeat…

P.S. It’s warming up here again in sunny ‘ol England. The squirrels will be out in the garden getting up to all kinds of shenanigans soon.
