How to make writing great again

The blank page sucks.

And I often get sucked into writing writing, instead of writing like I talk.

I can sit down and write a short story in an hour and it will need almost no editing. (That’s the writing writing)

Then I think I’m hot shit and can write emails like that…

Then reality kicks me in the teeth because passive and active voice is such an ass to deal with when you need to write to engage. (The kind of writing like I talk thing…)

Which is important because you want them to read the words and then do things.

Those things might be to reply, click a link or buy.

And you know what us creative/artistic folks tend to do?

We skirt around and don’t let our fans get what they want.

So how do we fix that? Well, we learn to build great sentences.

I got stuck into one of my notebooks that were collecting dust and in red writing it just said:

Re-read “Building Great Sentences by Brooks Landon”

So that’s what this weekend is about.

If you feel you’re getting stuck into writing writing. Grab it and devour it. I forgot how good it was.

Stephen Walker.

P.S. Less than a cup of coffee and it’ll be so good for your writing
