Every now and then.
Well…
Every couple of months I treat myself to a filthy Mcdonald’s…
Yes yes I know I shouldn’t eat that garbage but come on.
I’ve been exclusively eating steak and eggs for ages now. So I’m allowed to treat myself on occasion.
Truthfully, I don’t know why I put myself through that shit, cause in the moment it hits all of my little cravings and dopamine receptors but when all is done… I feel like an unstoppable force meets immovable object. My body is battling it out and I have to try my hardest to not fall asleep and go into a micro-nap coma.
Anyways.
So the Mcdonald’s I go to is generally a pretty chilled place. It has its busy moments but today was not one of them.
I went in. Placed my order and stood around and waited.
What I noticed was staff that looked like a bunch of zombies. They weren’t chatting to each other. They were just slogging around as if they’ve been out partying non stop for the last 162 hours. Not to mention they had to prep one meal, which was my meal and it took forever. There just doesn’t seem to be any pride among the younger folk.
Unless I’m missing something and just existing seems to be the in thing, it felt like I was in a different time period or reality.
I get that being young and working at a place like Mcdonald’s doesn’t tick all the boxes but hey, you’ve got a job. You’ve got some cash coming in and as much as working there might be frowned upon by you and your peers. You can learn a lot from working in a place like that.
Namely, getting good at people. You get to crawl out of your social butterfly cocoon and get talking to real people. This one was different though. Nobody wanted to say much of a word to anyone while they were all standing around. The only words that were acknowledged were the call outs for order numbers and the freshly (heavily) salted fries…
But the point is this.
We are social creatures. We need to get good with dealing with people. If you get good at people. You can essentially control the way you and the world interact with each other.
I get that we’re introverted in a lot of cases, but there are points where you need to go a little crazy and be wild and obnoxious out in the real world.
If you don’t ask. You don’t get. If you don’t listen, you’ll never understand and if you never understand. You’ll never be effective in anything you do.
I’m a nerdy writer and what not but I am damn good at people.
It’s just sad to see the younger generation not even wanting to understand themselves and others. The scary thing too is that they are the generation now, that’ll be running the world in the future and that is a scary thought.
Now you’ll have to excuse me while I go eject all of this Mcdonald’s from my body…
