Are the exact words I’d imagine Hayao Miyazaki would’ve used if he was super fluent in English, to shit on the tech bros who have ripped his style and took a punt at his creative legacy…
I mean social media has been plagued with all of these images the last few days and if you’re not familiar with the legendary creator and artist. Check out Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro or Spirited away to name a few…
The internet and GEN-A.I. slop took to the races to re-create everything in the same “style” and to the untrained eye, it looked good.
I mean it looked as good as A.I. generated content could look but here comes the deeper problem.
The more people adopt GEN-A.I. to create masses of the same shit visually, the more fatigued the viewers are going to be.
Attention spans are already fried because of social media and platforms like TikTok for the quick buzz of dopamine and doom scroll traps.
Add some visual fatigue into the mix and before you know it. Our dopamine receptors are going to be fucked beyond repair.
Remember that film Equilibrium where nobody was allowed to have feelings or have anything creative and man made because again, it could lead to feelings? Well this what that GEN-A.I. slop is doing.
It’s also minimising humanity and creativity down to some binary 1’s and 0’s and allowing people to just push a button after typing a few words, followed by “creating” something of their own.
And yes. I can get the argument that now it opens up creativity for people who can’t draw/paint etc.
But then what’s the point?
That’s the beauty of being a creative.
It’s something you dedicate a massive portion of your life to, to become good. It’s what makes us human and now it’s getting simplified because of capitalist greed.
He left a pretty crazy quote about A.I. well before it became popularised like it is today and I can get behind it…
“I am utterly disgusted,” he says. If you really want to make creepy stuff, you can go ahead and do it, but I would never wish to incorporate this technology into my work at all. I strongly feel that this is an insult to life itself.”
But it’s getting worse and before you know it we won’t be able to escape the onslaught of 7-Eleven rip offs from loved creators…
Anywho. This is just a rant because I’m firmly against A.I. taking over the creative side of our world. It’s not natural, human or satisfying and before we know it. We’ll be locked in little cubicles being the little prompt monkeys society wants us to become.
I’m not about that life.
